1. Choose browser editing or a desktop download

For a quick photo edit or a small PSD, open the editor here: no installation or site account is needed. For a desktop application, use the official releases from storytold/photocraft on GitHub. PhotoCraft is an open-source project from ArtCraft; Use PhotoCraft is an independent browser host.

Official latest stable PhotoCraft release

The latest-release link follows new stable desktop releases. The tested browser version is shown above and on our updates page. Package examples below were checked for v0.9.0; future releases can change filenames and platform support.

2. Choose the correct package and architecture

Open the official latest release and expand Assets. Choose a packaged application for your operating system and processor. GitHub’s Source code archives contain source files, not an installed app; the photocraft-web ZIP is for hosting a website. You do not need either to use this browser editor.

  • Windows: choose an MSI installer or a portable ZIP for x64, ARM64 or x86. Run the MSI to install, or extract the whole portable ZIP into a folder before opening the application. Keep its companion files together.
  • macOS: choose the universal DMG for Intel and Apple silicon Macs. Open the disk image and copy the application to Applications. The macOS CLI ZIP is a command-line package, not the graphical editor.
  • Linux: choose a package matching your distribution and CPU. DEB and RPM packages use your system’s installer; AppImage is an alternative for x86_64 and aarch64. After verification, allow the AppImage to execute in file properties, then open it. Check release notes if dependencies are missing.

Check System type in Windows Settings → System → About, About This Mac on macOS, or uname -m on Linux. Match x64/x86_64 to 64-bit Intel/AMD and arm64/aarch64 to ARM64; do not choose by operating-system name alone.

3. Is PhotoCraft safe? Check the source and download

Start from the official project links below and confirm the GitHub owner is storytold and the repository is photocraft. For a download, compare its SHA-256 hash with the matching filename in SHA256SUMS.txt from the same release. Replace FILE in the commands below with the downloaded file’s path. A matching hash checks integrity against that published value; it is not a security audit or guarantee.

Windows PowerShell
Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 "FILE"
macOS
shasum -a 256 "FILE"
Linux
sha256sum "FILE"

On this website, image editing happens on your device. Network requests still load the site and editor; hosting logs and Cloudflare Web Analytics are separate from image processing. Save or export before closing or refreshing: this browser build has no document autosave or recovery. Keep original files and do not bypass system security warnings merely to run a download.

4. Open a small file and check your first export

Open a copy of a small PNG, JPEG or PSD before trying a large project. Make one reversible edit, export an image, then reopen the result to inspect it. The first-edit and PSD guides below include a free three-layer practice file and explain saving an editable copy separately from a flattened PNG.

The desktop steps here are based on the official release packages, not installation tests on each operating system. Our recorded hands-on check covers the browser editor in desktop Chrome and the practice PSD. Desktop behavior, security prompts and complex-file compatibility need checking on your own system.
